Mr Rod Chalmers

Consultant Vascular Surgeon

Mr Rod Chalmers is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Senior Lecturer at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, UK.  He undertook his clinical surgical training in South-East Scotland and London, where he was senior registrar and senior clinical fellow at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.  He completed a research fellowship in the USA.

He has major interests in complex aortic aneurysm disease, carotid surgery and lower limb ischaemia.  He is the Director of the Scottish National Service for the treatment of Thoraco-abdominal Aortic Aneurysms and Clinical Lead for the National Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme in Lothian & Borders Region.

He has published extensively on all aspects of vascular surgery, including lower limb bypass surgery, carotid surgery and thoraco-abdominal aneurysm repair.  His MD thesis investigated anastomotic stenting as a means of averting bypass graft failure.

He has been undertaking medico-legal work for over 20 years and produces over 50 reports/annum.
