Mr Mark Chapman

Consultant Colorectal Surgeon

Mark is a Consultant Colorectal and Emergency General Surgery at Good Hospital Hospital, part of University Hospitals, Birmingham. He was appointed in 1998 having trained in Cambridge, London and Nottingham.

He was awarded a Tancred Medical Scholarship as an undergraduate and a Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England for his work on colonic bacteria.

He has published extensively in the field of colorectal cancer and pelvic floor disorders. His experience includes several hundred resections for bowel cancer, as well management of benign colorectal diseases. He has a special interest in pelvic disorders including faecal incontinence and prolapse. He takes part in the emergency on call rota and enjoys emergency decision making and operating.

Mark has held several governance and leadership roles, both locally and nationally. He has been the Colorectal Cancer Lead and is now the joint Trust Cancer Lead. He has chaired the Specialised Colorectal National Clinical Reference Group for NHS England, ensuring equitable access and stands of care across England. He has also sat on the Executive Committees of the Association of Coloproctology and the Pelvic Floor Society.

Mark has received training as an Expert Witness with Inspire MediLaw. He is happy to accept medico-legal instructions in the fields of Colorectal Pelvic floor and Emergency General Surgery.
