Dr Tom Boyd

Tom Boyd obtained an Open Exhibition to study medicine at Christ’s College, Cambridge and completed his clinical training at UCH. He practiced as a GP from 1980 to 2014. Tom was the senior partner in a seven-partner practice in Bushey, Hertfordshire. His main interests, apart from his patients, were GP education and assessment. He became a trainer, GP course organiser, Associate Dean of Postgraduate General Practice and was a senior member of the Panel of Examiners of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

Tom serendipitously started work as an expert witness in 1995 when an obstetrician passed on a GP case to him. He has written nearly 1500 reports on instructions from claimants’ and defendants’ representatives. Tom has given expert evidence in civil, coroners’ and criminal courts and to the General Medical Council. He is a contributor to APIL’s textbook, ‘Clinical Negligence’ and to ‘Clinical Negligence’ (Lewis and Buchan).

 During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tom has worked for the Covid Clinical Assessment service and as a volunteer vaccinator. In March 2021, he gave his 2000th coronavirus vaccine.
