Dr Nithiya Palaniappan

Nithiya is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in NHS Fife. She has been a Consultant for the last 10 years in busy tertiary hospitals in Edinburgh (NHS Lothian) and Mumbai, India. She has been the Lead for Labour ward services in the busiest maternity unit in Scotland (2016-2017).

Nithiya’s practice concentrates on Obstetrics and she practices both maternal and fetal medicine. She has vast experience in labour ward practice.

She is the Lead for Maternity Clinical Governance in Victoria Hospital and has been the lead clinician for Stillbirth reviews in NHS Lothian for 5 years. Her experience in risk management for the last 10 years has enabled her to lead on several serious adverse event reviews which includes stillbirths, neonatal mortality, surgical site infections and maternal mortality. She ha written many guidelines and conducted several audits.

Nithiya has been instrumental in introducing and running several projects in NHS Lothian and NHS Fife. She is an MRCOG Examiner and plays an active role in several of the Royal College committees.
