Andrew is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon. He is the Trust Cancer Lead for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. He is on the Medical Advisory Council of the Spire Washington Hospital
Andrew’s NHS practice involves both emergency and elective care provision, and involves
the full remit of general surgery and colorectal surgery. Colorectal cancer surgery is his main area of subspecialty interest and his day to day clinical work includes the investigation and treatment of all colorectal and anorectal disorders, hernia, abdominal wall and gallbladder surgery, endoscopic procedures (both upper GI and lower GI), and all emergency general surgical presentations.
As Trust Cancer Lead for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust Andrew
provides clinical leadership to 9 cancer tumour sites and ensures high standards of clinical
cancer care and quality assurance are in place. Andrew sits on the regional Northern Cancer Alliance
strategy meetings.
He chairs the Trust-wide colorectal cancer multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, sits on the regional complex rectal lesion MDT meeting, and also chairs the Serious and Non-Specific Symptoms cancer MDT meeting. Until recently he was Clinical Lead for the Day Surgical Unit, developing clinical pathways, and providing clinical leadership for this department.
