Ann Logan

Partner and Clinical Negligence Lawyer, Balfour + Manson

I have over 20 years of legal experience in Scotland, England and Hong Kong which has given me a wide variety of different types of cases. I am qualified to practice in each country and I have enjoyed the challenges of litigation in each, which have been exciting and fulfilling in different ways.

I trained at Balfour+Manson and after broadening my horizons I returned in 1994. Since then I have conducted professional negligence, personal injury and commercial claims, primarily in the Court of Session. Many of the personal injury cases arise out of accidents at work, on the roads and in the air, including recent cases against the Ministry of Defence.

My main focus is pursuing medical negligence claims, on behalf of individuals. I have extensive experience in high value catastrophic injury claims, particularly birth trauma and I have secured substantial compensation for clients in cerebral palsy and brain injury cases, the most recent of which settled out of court at £4m. I have a wide variety of cases, including surgical, GP and dental cases, those involving delayed diagnosis of cancer and eye surgery, as well as related health professions and for cosmetic treatment. I have been ranked in medical /clinical negligence work for a number of years in both the Legal 500 and Chambers. I am honoured to have been personally mentioned again in both publications this year, as it is a privilege to be able to assist those who have suffered life changing injury through no fault of their own to obtain fair recompense.

I have been involved in discussions with other parties concerning the voluntary pre-action protocol in clinical negligence claims, which aims to speed up the investigation and resolution of suitable cases. In this firm we are using it to obtain the health records and documentation fundamental to investigating a claim, so that we can advise you quickly. In certain circumstances, it can be used to obtain rehabilitation or treatment to address those needs.
