I am a consultant gynaecologist with over 18 years of experience in the specialty. My current appointment is at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
My main scope of practice is general gynaecology with a special interest in Endometriosis and advanced minimal access surgery. My standard working timetable includes outpatient clinics, outpatient diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy clinics, operating theatre and emergency gynaecology.
I am experienced in the medical and surgical management of common gynaecological conditions such as:
• Irregular, heavy and painful periods,
• Endometriosis and adenomyosis
• Endometrial polyps and fibroids
• Pre- and post-menopausal ovarian cysts,
• Pelvic inflammatory disease,
• Ectopic pregnancy
• Early pregnancy complications (Miscarriages, ectopic pregnancy, pregnancy of unknown location, hyperemesis gravidarum)
• Ovarian cysts accidents (Torsion, ruptures and haemorhage)
Having performed over 1000 surgeries in the past 5 years, I am experienced in:
• Open and laparoscopic hysterectomy
• Surgical treatment of all grades of endometriosis
• Surgical treatment of adenomyosis
• Open and laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy
• Laparoscopic sterilization
• Open and laparoscopic removal of tubes and ovaries
• Laparoscopic and open management of ectopic pregnancy
• Open and laparoscopic management of ovarian torsions
• Open and laparoscopic management of pelvic abscess
Minimal access hysteroscopic surgery is another field of expertise that I practice regularly in the outpatients and inpatients settings. I performed over 500 hysteroscopic procedures for:
• Diagnosis and treatment of heavy, irregular, and painful periods.
• Diagnosis and treatment of endometrial polyps
• Hysteroscopic resection of fibroids
• Endometrial ablation procedures
• Insertion and removal of intrauterine contraceptive devices.
The width and depth of my surgical experience is supported academically by the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) accreditation to perform advanced surgery for complex endometriosis and practicing at the BSGE accredited Sheffield Endometriosis Centre and accreditation as a Minimal access Gynaecological surgeon by the Europena Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE).
I graduated with an MBBCH and obtained a Master degree in obstetrics and gynaecology followed by a second master degree from Palermo University. I obtained my Membership to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and went on to obtain my Diploma in advanced minimal access surgery from The European society of gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE).
My medicolegal training includes Expert Witness training from Inspire Medi Law and am currently undertaking a university degree in medical law with Hull University.
