I have been a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive care for 16 years and am currently in full time practice in two busy District General Hospitals on the South Coast of England. Prior to this I worked at the London Teaching Hospitals of Guys and St Thomas.
I am both a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine. I have a particular interest in Trauma and am a member of the National Steering Group for Advanced Trauma Life Support at the Royal College of Surgeons. I am the clinical director for an Advanced Trauma Life Support Course, and I am an Instructor for Advanced Life Support and Paediatric Life Support.
I have a keen interest in medical education, having been a College Tutor for Anaesthetics, the Clinical Tutor for my local hospital and the Foundation Lead. I am also an appraiser for senior doctors.
I regularly teach both locally and nationally on medical consent and the Mental Capacity Act. Having been Trust Lead for Consent since 2008, and current chair of the Trust Consent Committee and Health Records Steering Group, I am frequently called upon to provide advice to colleagues. I also have an interest in the ethics and regulation of Medical Research in humans and I am the Chair of a Health Research Authority NHS Research Ethics Committee.
I accept instructions across the breadth of my practice. I have particular expertise in Adult intensive care, Acute kidney injury, Vascular access, Sepsis, Hospital-acquired infections, Trauma, Airway care, Metabolic & endocrine disorders, Cardiovascular optimization, General Anaesthesia, Spinal Anaesthesia, Epidural Anaesthesia and Trauma Anaesthesia.
