Dr Newby has more than 12-years’ experience as an anaesthetist in the NHS. He undertook specialist training in paediatric anaesthesia and preoperative assessment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital before taking up a substantive post in paediatric and adult anaesthesia at Ipswich Hospital in 2019. He has been the lead for paediatric anaesthestic services for the last 4-and-a-half years and co-developed the paediatric preoperative assessment service. He has previously published on the issue in a peer-reviewed journal.
Dr Newby’s adult workload includes the comorbid patient undergoing high-risk surgery. He is heavily involved in the adult preoperative assessment service and has extensive experience of leading shared-decision making processes, best interest meetings, and surgical pre-optimisation.
Dr Newby is a GMC-accredited trainer in anaesthesia and has a comprehensive grasp of the competency-requirements for doctors training in paediatric and adult anaesthesia. He has also gained a distinction in his LLM and is the incumbent departmental governance lead, gaining experience in incident investigations and complaint handling.
