About Dr Damian Kelly

Dr Kelly was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Derby Hospital in 2011 after training in North-West England and New Zealand. He is Clinical Director with responsibility for Specialist Medicine at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS FT and previously was clinical lead for cardiology. In 2020, he was appointed to the British Cardiovascular Society Guidelines and Practice committee, advising NICE on cardiovascular issues. He is past chair of the NHSE East Midlands Cardiovascular Advisory Group.

Dr Kelly has a special interest in the investigation and treatment of adult cardiovascular disease, particularly the treatment of coronary artery disease. He has undertaken training in medico-legal expert practice, acts as an expert in the Coroner’s Court, and accepts medico-legal instructions in a range of areas of adult clinical cardiology, including:

  • Assessment and management of chest pain;
  • Assessment and management of angina;
  • Ischaemic heart disease;
  • Acute coronary syndromes;
  • Acute myocardial infarction;
  • Assessment of patient with valvular heart disease;
  • Cardiac catheterization;
  • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI, coronary angioplasty and stenting);
  • Assessment of patients for Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG);
  • Management of post procedural complications of PCI / CABG;
  • Cardiac rhythm disturbances;
  • Pacemaker implantation – temporary and permanent;
  • Heart failure;
  • Hypertension;
  • Lipid abnormalities
