Dr Barry underwent an accelerated training programme to become a consultant in Palliative Medicine in 2017. She has a broad spectrum of palliative care practice across a wide range of medical conditions and a particular interest in the management of neurodegenerative conditions. In 2022, she was appointed Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in Clinical and Translational Medicine, a joint appointment between the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the University of East Anglia. She holds a masters in medical law (LLM).
She has extensive clinical leadership experience; currently acting as clinical advisor to an integrated care board, and expert advisor for the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission. She has acted as Clinical Director for Palliative Medicine for 3 years, regional clinical advisor for Macmillan Cancer Support and Managing Director of a Palliative Care Provider Collaborative. For the past six years she has been a board member for the Royal College of Physicians Speciality Certificate in Palliative Medicine
She has undertaken training in medico-legal practice, has given oral evidence in the Court of Protection (sitting in the High Court) and accepts medio-legal instructions in a range of areas including:

• Clinically Assisted Hydration and Nutrition
• Do not attempt cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, ReSPECT process, Advance Decisions to Refuse Treatment
