Abigail is an experienced midwife and registered general nurse with over 20 years’ experience in maternity investigation, labour, critical care, stillbirths, neonatal and maternal deaths, neonatal brain injuries and serious incidents.
Abigail worked as a Maternity Investigator for the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB), for several years, where she developed advanced skills in interviewing, report writing, liaising, negotiating, and supporting families and staff, following bereavement and serious incidents.
She has worked in hospital, community, and research settings, within women’s, surgical, medical, emergency, mental health, bereavement, and palliative care. She has also held senior clinical nursing and midwifery leadership roles in addition to working overseas in leading roles in both nursing and midwifery.
Abigail is the clinical investigation lead for the Baby Lifeline healthcare investigation course run at Cranfield University. She designed the investigation case simulation for this course and provides lecturing support.
