Conversations on Consent 2020

Manchester – Exeter – Edinburgh –

“People seem to still be grappling with some aspects of the legal test set down
and the applicability of the Bolam test in the post Montgomery world”
~Lauren Sutherland QC

Following the landmark Supreme Court decision in the case of Montgomery (Appellant) v Lanarkshire Health Board (Respondent) (Scotland) [2015] UKSC 11 the issue of consent has preoccupied medics, patients, and lawyers.

Lauren Sutherland QC

We want to encourage medical and legal professionals to engage on this hot topic – to facilitate better understanding of how this decision should be implemented in clinical practice, what it means for patient safety, and how it should be approached in litigation.

Lauren Sutherland QC, Ampersand Advocates, was a member of the legal team on the Montgomery case.

Both Lauren Sutherland and Nadine Montgomery are passionate about encouraging doctors, healthcare professionals and lawyers to understand informed consent, and we are thrilled to welcome them both to get the Conversation on Consent going!

Come to hear what they have to say, bring your questions, and join us after each event for informal networking and an opportunity to meet the panel.

Lauren and Nadine have been invited to open the events with a discussion of their journey to the Supreme Court, and since, before joining a panel of lawyers and clinicians to discuss some of the practical issues raised and take questions from the floor.

Following the formal session, please stay to continue the Conversation with your medical and legal colleagues over refreshments.

The event is designed for:

– Doctors and healthcare professionals at any stage in their career; and
– Lawyers with a practice or interest in medical law generally, at any stage in their career.

We want to foster an atmosphere where delegates feel comfortable asking questions & participating in discussion.  Delegate numbers are limited to 40 at most events and more dates may be added in response to demand.
